Photographing: Always remember to ask permission when you are going to take a photograph in a public place or of people. It is also strictly forbidden to take photos of military installations. Pharmacies: Pharmacies are called “eczane” in Turkish, here are most non-prescription recipes and they do not cost very much. They are well trained, knowledgeable and many are also entitled to give injections, many cities have on-call pharmacy; “nohetci ezcane.” Passport and visas: A valid passport is a must for everyone that travels to Turkey to have with them and the passports must be valid to cover your return date. Disabled: Not many hotels in Turkey are adapted for the disabled, many hotels have stairs to the entrance and the lifts are often very narrow. The toilets inside the hotel rooms are usually also narrow and not suitable to fit a wheelchair in. It is best to talk to tour operators about hotels that are adapted for the disabled. Luggage: 44 pound are allowed, including hand baggage, baggage exceeding 44 pound will be charged extra. Food and beverages: The bacterial flora is not like it is in England, so by being extra careful and washing your hands an extra time you can reduce the risk of getting the tourist illness. Tap water cannot be drunk in Turkey, so buy bottled water. Remember to wash fruit and vegetables that you purchase CAREFULLY! A simple meal will cost about: 5.6 GBP, lunch around 6.65 GBP, a dinner around 12.3 GBP, a beer about 2.3 GBP and bottled water around 0.57 GBP/litre. Money and Valuables: Remember never to leave money or valuables around in your hotel room. Store them instead in the safe deposit boxes that can be rented at your hotel.
